My Ideas

I saw the last  movie of James Cameron, the much discussed and hyped Avatar.
It is, indeed, epic. It was absolutely stunning from a graphical point of view, it was exciting and the suspense went on all throughout the whole movie.
Despite of that, I do have some criticism regarding the story and ideology of the movie.
I suppose you know the storyline of the movie because I am not going to review it, but rather pointing out some interesting ideas.

The analogy with the genocide of the Indians is obvious. The blue guys, representing the Indians, are somehow portrait as modern ecology freaks, which we can identify with, since green is soooo cool right now. The problem I have is that historically the movie is blatantly wrong. If you watch the Westerns from the 80s you will always see the classical black white scheme in which the Indians are the bad guys and the white cowboys the good guys. I think that you can draw a parallel here. Now the bad guys are supposed to portrait the modern western society (being technological, not caring about mother earth, having a modern warfare, being cynical etc.) and the good guys are now the Indians.
The movie, obviously, ends with the victory of David over Goliath. That is, of course, not true, because hundreds of millions of  Indians have been crudely murdered. By creating this story not only you get diverted from the real historic facts but a sophisticated illusion is being created. The illusion that the only thing we did to those poor Indians is that we destroyed their habitat. This becomes the primar, if not only reason why we should have compassion with the Indians. So whether it is the Western cowboy movie or Avatar, both systematically deny the implicit connection between Indians and genocide.

But I can connive at that. The most biggest failure is the following.
The fact that It has to be a white person, with his western mindset and culture, that has to teach the Indians how to behave is what annoyed me the most. It is the white guy, disguised as an Indian/blue guy, who leads them into the victory. This white male is obviously a leader and people venerate and worship him. Hitler, Stalin and Franco comes to my mind.

It seems to me, that the only way out of a crisis, the only way to solve problems is with the help of the white guy . We should not question him and believe...pray... hm... Religion comes to my mind...

For another rather funny but still interesting interpretation is this:
